Vegetable Waxes are a relatively new and increasingly popular choice for candle makers. Created by hydrogenating vegetable oils, such as: soy, rapeseed, palm, coconut and others, to make them solid at room temperature, they offer a renewable alternative to paraffin waxes.
Whilst vegetable waxes struggle to achieve the same scent throw as paraffin waxes and can be technically difficult to work with, they do have a number of benefits. The appearance of the wax is very creamy and luxurious and the candles are less likely to soot than a parrafin candle if wicking is not quite right (which it often isn't with beginners). They can be difficult to wick in larger containers (70mm+), so we advise budding soy candle makers to start small and work up.
